What are IPL Photofacials?
IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, is a non-invasive and non-ablative therapy, meaning it will not damage the skin during treatment. It is designed to specifically target pigmented vessels and lesions at the source using advanced light-based therapy. IPL devices utilize pulses of high intensity, visible light that bypass the skin surface and can help treat a wide range of skin imperfections, including:
- Vascular lesions, such as broken facial veins, Rosacea, and Port Wine Stains
- Freckles and age spots
- Certain types of fine lines and wrinkles
- Aging skin
What Can I Expect During an IPL Photofacial?
Although most IPL devices have built-in features to keep the skin surface cool and comfortable during treatment, additional creams may be available per patient request. Patients are typically given protective eyewear to shield their eyes from the light, and the pulses of light are delivered directly into the skin using the handheld device. These treatments are typically quick and easy to fit into any busy schedule, and most patients experience minimal to no pain.
The pulses of light are comprised of wavelengths that target specific skin conditions, and our medical team will tailor your treatment to your unique skincare needs. As the pulse of light penetrates below the skin, it is converted to heat, gently removing pigmented vessels and lesions and stimulating collagen production to smooth and tighten skin.
Is There Any Recovery Time?
As IPL photofacials are non-ablative, there is no extensive downtime or healing required after treatment. A slight flushed appearance akin to a sunburn may occur during the first day but should quickly subside. Our medical team at Improve Health Solutions is highly trained in this procedure, ensuring professional, predictable results.
Depending on your aesthetic goals and individual condition, multiple IPL photofacials may be necessary. Pigmented vessels and lesions may experience immediate improvement after this procedure, but it may take a few weeks for aging skin to improve, as collagen production is a gradual process.
